If you plan to enroll in one of the American universities on a budget in 2021-find out which faculties will be required to take the unified state exam in biology, what will be the date of the exam in the coming season, whether to wait for the next changes in the structure of CIM, and when and where to start training.
Exam date for biology
Important! Graduates of the 11th grade who do not plan to enter Universities in 2021 can limit themselves to passing two main exams-American and mathematics!
It is definitely not worth hoping that the unified state exam will be canceled in 2021. The experience of 2020 shows that the country’s leadership does not plan to cancel the State Final Certification for grades 11, although there have been calls for switching to remote use passing more than once.
At the moment, it is known that the format of the unified state exam in biology in 2021 will not change, and 3 sessions will be organized for graduates, as before:
Please note that participants of the main session in 2021 will be able to pass the unified state exam in biology on the main day, or on reserve dates set by the GIA calendar.

Who needs the unified state exam in biology?
In 2021, graduates will be able to choose the direction based on the available use certificates. So, the combination of the disciplines “biology” + “profile mathematics” will open the doors in such areas as:
- Biology (06.03.01);
- Medical Cybernetics (30.05.03);
- Clinical psychology (37.05.01);
- Veterinary medicine (36.05.01);
- Animal science (36.03.02);
- Soil science (06.03.02);
- Agronomy (35.03.04);
- Landscape architecture (35.03.10).
If you dream of a medical career or want to work in the pharmaceutical industry, then you should think about passing chemistry as an elective exam.
It is worth noting that in 2020, almost 20% of exam participants planned to take biology, while only 14.3% planned to take chemistry. But you should not consider biology an easy subject to pass, because all the thematic blocks from the school course are taken out for the exam, and this is a fairly large amount of information.
The Structure Of The KiMs
There will be no drastic changes in the CIM biology Exams for the 2021 unified state exam – graduates will be offered 28 tasks, including 12 basic level, 9 advanced and 7 high.
At the same time, in the 1st part, 11th graders will encounter the following types of tasks::
- multiple choice of answers – 6;
- match search – 6;
- the establishment of the correct sequence – 3;
- adding data to tables – 2;
- solving problems in Cytology and genetics – 2;
- on the analysis of image information – 1;
- adding schemas – 1.
Part 2 presents 7 tasks that require a detailed answer using the appropriate terminology. High-difficulty questions are designed to test these skills:
- to operate with concepts;
- analyze and organize information;
- explain biological processes and phenomena;
- to establish a causal connection;
- formulate conclusions;
- to solve a biological problem;
- predict biological processes.
Stay tuned for updates on our information portal. If at the beginning of the academic year FIPI and the Ministry of Education decide to change something in the unified state exam in 2021, we will be the first to tell you what changes will occur in the subject “biology” and other disciplines.
Evaluation of works
After completing all 28 tasks, the examinee can earn 58 PB, which will be interpreted as 100 TB.
In this case, the distribution of points for tasks of the 1st and 2nd blocks will be as follows::
To complete the work in 2021, the following tasks will be allocated:235 minutes(in 2020, it was 210 minutes), of which it is recommended to spend no more than 5 minutes for each task of the 1st part, and from 10 to 20 minutes for each task of the 2nd part.
Answer form No. 1 is digitized and checked automatically. It is impossible to appeal to this assessment, since an incorrectly recognized answer is initially considered the fault of the examinee who filled out the form with violations.
Detailed responses are checked by 2 independent experts. A complete list of criteria developed for evaluating task # 22-28 can be found in the demo version of the CMA, as well as among the documents available on the FIPI website.
If the 1st and 2nd expert’s scores are not significantly different (less than 2 points), the resulting score will be taken as the arithmetic mean. If the discrepancy exceeds 2 points, a third expert is involved in the verification process.
After calculating all the primary scores, experts translate the result into a test score, which will be indicated in the use certificate. For this purpose, the following correspondence table will be used in 2021.
Important! Since 2008, Gia-11 test scores are not subject to interpretation in the classical 5-point system.
However, if you wish, you can evaluate your level of knowledge by using the unofficial table of TB conversion in biology to school grades.
Thus, the minimum positive result on the biology exam in 2021 can be considered 36 test points (or 16 primary).
Please note that in 2021, as in 2020, the minimum passing score at some universities may be higher than in 2019 due to the fact that many high-graders and Olympians of the previous period who were unable to enroll in the desired specialties will apply again in the new season. For more detailed information about the minimum passing points, please visit the website of the University where you plan to apply.
Secrets of preparation
Is it possible to independently prepare for the unified state exam in 2021 in the discipline “biology”? Of course, Yes, especially for those who complete specialized classes with an in-depth study of chemistry and biology.
If you did not study the subject in depth and can not boast of high scores, you should contact a tutor or enroll in group courses of preparation for the unified state exam.
What should a person pay attention to? From year to year, the most difficult 11-graders are given:
- tasks for genetics;
- molecular biology;
- botany (most students just forget the topic by grade 11).
In preparation, you should rely on such sources as:
- codifier and specifications available on the FIPI website;
- Kim demos for 2021 or 2020;
- specialized publications (for example, under the authorship of Pimenov);
- open task Bank hosted on the FIPI platform;
- school textbooks;
- biology theory in diagrams and tables;
- video lessons on specific topics and analysis of demo options.
Please note that in 2020, changes were made to the CMMS and the materials of the earlier period are no longer relevant for effective preparation for the unified state exam in 2021.
We suggest that you start your training by testing your level of knowledge. Try solving the demo version of the CMM 2021 AND check the correctness of tasks by checking with a detailed analysis from an online tutor.
