Task # 29-social studies essay
In total, participants of the 2021 unified state exam will be offered 29 tasks (12 at the basic level, 10 at the advanced level, and 7 at the high level). In the 1st part, 20 test questions with short answers will be offered, and in the 2nd part-9 tasks with detailed answers, one of which is writing a mini – essay.
The main feature of task # 29 is variability. In 2021, GIA participants will be able to choose one of the five suggested topics for writing an essay on the unified state exam in social studies.
So, in the demo version, the following statements were proposed::
Please note that the topics selected for the 2021 social studies essay are not announced in advance. It is not known what kind of statements graduates will meet in the coming season. One thing is certain – each of the topics will relate to a specific content section:
- Political science;
- Legal studies.
The basic requirements for a mini-essay haven’t changed:
- the minimum length is 150 words (a smaller essay is not evaluated).);
- the optimal length is from 300 to 400 words;
- the main idea statement must be present;
- use the appropriate terms and concepts in the text.;
- for illustrations, you can use facts from history, social life, or personal experience.;
- examples should not be of the same type or duplicate each other.
Important! Experts recommend leaving 30-45 minutes out of the 235 minutes allotted by the regulations for completing all the work to complete the 29th task.
For an essay, you can get a maximum of 6 primary points, and for completing all 29 tasks-64.
Experts will evaluate the mini-essay based on the following criteria::
- K1-Revealing the meaning of the utterance (1B.);
- K2-Explanation of concepts and correctness of theoretical propositions (2B.);
- K3 – Coherence and logical reasoning (1B.);
- K4 – quality of examples (2B.).
Important! If the meaning of the statement is not revealed, or it is revealed incorrectly, 0 points are given for the 1st criterion and the essay is not checked further.
In 2021, you can write an essay on social studies based on such a universal plan:
- Introduction (actually, the quote itself from the task).
- Wording of the topic (the problem raised by the author).
- Revealing the meaning of a statement.
- The examinee’s point of view on this issue.
- Examples (at least 2).
- A brief conclusion.
Please note that in the structure of the mini-essay in 2021, the item “relevance of the problem”is missing. Do not waste time and symbols on topicality, because it is believed that all the problems submitted to the GIA are already relevant for modern people. If you find examples of social studies essays on the web where this item is marked as mandatory, know that revealing the relevance of the problem will not add points to you for the 2021 unified state exam.
Also, you should not waste time on concepts that go beyond the topic and personal biographies that are found in the examples. Focus on important aspects that are directly relevant to the topic (problem) and the chosen direction.
Topics and directions
Most Tutors recommend that when preparing for the unified state exam 2021, choose a social studies course that will be as close and understandable to you as possible, and focus on it, drawing up an essay writing plan, as well as working out all the basic concepts and terms.
Many people consider this direction to be one of the simplest, because most of the problems covered in the “sociology” block are close and understandable to 11th graders. Also, according to statistics, it is on sociological essays that exam participants most often score the maximum possible 6 points.
Choosing this direction, the examinee can use examples from life and literature, as well as historical facts, as arguments.
In the section “sociology” in 2021, the following topics may be raised::
Perhaps this is the most popular direction for essays among participants of the unified state exam in social studies, since the basics of Economics are quite deeply studied in high school, and as examples you can use a variety of facts from modern life.
Most often, this block offers statements related to people’s resources and needs, entrepreneurship and business, competition, factors of production, and the essence of money and wealth.
We bring to your attention possible topics from this direction:
A course that requires the examinee to have a deep knowledge of law and the law-making process, the political system and the laws of the country, which makes it far from the easiest for 11th graders.
When discussing any problem, it will be necessary to refer to the current laws of the American Federation and analyze what impact their adoption has had on the lives of Americans.
Few students are interested in politics and delve into the specifics of the political processes taking place in the country. Perhaps that is why this section is not among the most popular on the unified state exam in 2019 and 2020. Many Tutors warn graduates against writing an essay in this area, as there is a high risk of misinterpreting the meaning of the statement proposed in the Kim.
In this section, graduates may encounter the following topics::
The most difficult, in the opinion of many schoolchildren and teachers, block, because it requires the examinee to reason on complex philosophical topics (about the material and spiritual, problems of the essence of consciousness, forms of being, intuition, truth), based on the opinions and statements of great philosophers.
In 2021, you may be offered to write an essay on the following topics in philosophy::
Even if you don’t write essays on literature with the maximum score, getting 6 primary points for an essay on social studies is more than realistic, because here they evaluate not the literacy of speech and the number of errors, but the coherence of judgments, understanding the problem and the ability to choose the right examples.
At the beginning of the article, a universal plan for social studies essays is provided, which will be relevant for any direction in 2021. Regardless of the chosen topic, you should start your work by stating the essence of the statement (what the author wanted to say).
Next, you need to specify how you understand this statement and Express your position. To do this, you can use such cliches.
The essay should contain at least 2 examples, and it is best if they illustrate the multidimensional nature of the statement (topic).
The most extensive section of your essay should be the argumentation section. Here you can think on an empirical or theoretical level.
The final paragraph of a mini-essay on social studies is a generalization and conclusion.
