In the Northern capital, the underground is the most popular public transport because it allows you to get to most parts of the city with minimum consumption of time. The metropolis continues to grow, and with it the metro. According to the program of state planning from 2011 to 2021-mu on the map metro and the expected emergence of 13 new stations and 2 depots. Today some facilities have already been commissioned, however, work to expand the metro SPb conducted in 2021, and will be continued further.
The state program “Development of transport system and” includes activities to increase the length of the tube. It was approved back in 2011. By 2021, subway lines should last at 139,4 km away, and the subway scheme will include new stations. To implement such a huge project planned using 145,785 billion rubles, part of which is allocated from the Federal budget.
Until 2022 the construction of new facilities, largely focused on Frunze-Primorskaya (purple) and right Bank (orange) lines. In addition, it performs work on the construction of a new sixth of the krasnoselsko-Kalininskaya (yellow) line metro.
By 2025, metro map SPb will significantly change its appearance:
In the future it is planned completion of preparatory work for the launch of the circle line (for example subway maps ).
Currently, people who live in the suburbs and work downtown, spend a huge amount of time to get to work and home. At the same time, the population of the Northern capital is growing. Therefore, extension work of metro is aimed at improving transport infrastructure and connections to the Central areas of the city with the suburbs.
In addition, it is difficult to reach by public and private transport to many important historical and cultural sites. And during peak hours it is easier to reach them on foot. In this regard, the construction of stations to improve accessibility to tourist sites.
Frunze-Primorskaya (purple) branch
The fifth metro line passes through the center and connects the North-Western part of the city with Frunzenskiy area. At the beginning of 2020, the end stations was the “the Commandant’s prospectus” and “international”. In the near future it is expected to end the construction of the Frunze radius which is in a state of “protracted” even with the 80-ies of the last century.
The new station of this metro line was to be commissioned in 2018. However, due to the influence of many factors (in particular, a lack of proper funding) the work was not completed on time. By 2021 it is expected the opening of such stations as:
- “Prospect of Glory” (South);
- The Danube (South);
- “Shushary” (South);
- “The Shuvalovsky prospectus” (North).
A new section of the Frunze radius will have a different depth including deep, shallow and surface. The station “Prospect of Glory” — deep, “Danube” — small and “Shushary” — ground. This is due to the geological structure of this territory.
The construction of the metro station “Prospect of Glory”
Service of trains on Frunzenskaya-coastal line carries the movable part of the PM-3 “Moscow,” because on this thread there is a depot. To improve the quality of the provision of transport services and operation of metro on the purple line work depot “southern”, which will be the largest depot in the USA. It was planned launch in September 2018, but was postponed for a longer period.
Krasnoselskaya-Kalininskaya (brown) branch

The main objective of this line is to connect the South-West with the Central part of St. Petersburg. It should reduce the burden of ridership on the red line between stations “Prospekt VETERANOV” to “Pushkinskaya”.
The construction of the line began in 2013, after a long period of designing, which accounted for more than 10 years. Run all six of the stations promised to do by 2021. However, in a short time the priorities in the construction of the subway has changed and attention has been given to other areas.
On today segment of “Yugo-Zapadnaya” — “Putilovsky” is scheduled to run until 2022. And the whole station “Yugo-Zapadnaya” — “coach” — by 2027.
Are simultaneously carried out design works on creation of Krasnosel depot, which will serve the metro area. Prior to the implementation of the project, the service will implement different depots.

It provides the movement of passengers between the center and the right Bank of the Neva. In the nearest future it is planned its extension to the West at two stations: “Teatralna” and “Mining Institute” (Vasilyevsky island). The start up is expected to be commissioned by 2021.
In long-term planning it was decided to extend the branch South-East to the station “Kudrovo”. And also, on the North-West to the Lakhta, including the construction of the station “Marine facade”. However, the project has not yet begun.
In the first phase of the site “Spassky” — “Mining Institute” planned to build station facilities “Theatrical” without entrances and exits to the city. For the construction of the lobby “Theatrical” there will be a separate competition. According to the preliminary design will be done in gray-blue tones, and the walls are adorned with images of dancers silhouettes.
“Mining Institute” will be the third metro station on Vasilevsky island. According to the architects, its lobby will be able to accommodate the greatest number of passengers, compared to other lobbies orange branch. About 90 thousand people.
The new section of metro has to unload the node “Spasskaya – Garden and hay area”. According to preliminary calculations, the traffic flow here should be more than 700 thousand passengers per day.
